actor ~ writer ~ director ~ puppeteer
[[ based in Brooklyn, New York ]]
lim is spellbound by performance, theatre, and cinema's potential power to dilate consciousness. When perception is stretched, a threshold emerges between self and world, forming a bridge between internal and outer; I and other. Once senses perceive from this threshold, expansion of emotional intelligence, and healing is made possible. This occurs when words, characters, motives, relationships, contexts, et cetera, ping truth; a universal awareness; a cosmic thread. It is in the unearthing of this perception that entrances lim as an actor/performer and director, and furthermore inspires them as a writer to locate this thread in the ethereal and ambiguous, whether that be in cognizant ponds, mud nymphs, condors, vampires, or lesbians. They are devoted to voices, play, and landscapes that implode the known-- the "possible," - that wane the veil to Great Mystery, and involuntarily resonate us to togetherness.
lim is a current artist-in-resident at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City. They are in the process of directing their piece, SUMMON PLAY, as part of La MaMa's Creatures, a 2-week series, in which conversation, puppetry, music, digital installations, films, and performances inspired by non-human pathos and understanding, will infest a La MaMa building; a call for togethering during ecological precarity. This community inhabitation will occur Oct. 20-Nov. 2, reach out for more information.
Last year, lim joined La MaMa's Great Jones Repertory Company, performing in Medea directed by Zishan Urgulu. In 2023, they performed internationally in Undying In Yidderland directed by Anna Lublina at Frankfurt's Mousonturm Künsterhaus, and in 2024 at Gießen's MADE Festival. Their work as a director and playwright has been presented with Dixon Place's Puppet Blok, Boxcutter Collective, Puppets Come Home, the Object Movement Festival (Center at West Park,) and AMiOS (Kraine Theatre.) They have performed in spaces throughout the city, including Judson Church Memorial, La MaMa, Dixon Place, St. Ann's Warehouse, The Tank, Ars Nova, and so on. They have been featured in commercials, such as Wellsfargo (with Steve Martin,) Amazon Alexa (Superbowl,) and OLAY, to name a few. They are a proud student of Wynn Handman, and have a BFA in Drama from NYU Tisch.
